An opportunity is available for an experienced professional to serve as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a K-12 public school setting in Oxon Hill, MD. This contract position spans the full school year (NSY) and requires a specialized skill set to support students with visual impairments in their educational journey. Key Qualifications: Graduate from a university program specifically in Special Education Visually Impaired Valid teaching certificate/licensure for teaching visually impaired students, issued by Maryland or another state Compliance with Maryland state licensure requirements for Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVI) Proven experience working as a TVI in a K12 public school environment Candidates must possess specific vision-impaired education credentials; degrees solely in general special education without TVI licensure will not be considered Familiarity with braille is advantageous but not a substitute for the required specialized training and certification Role Responsibilities: Deliver tailored instruction and support to students with visual impairments across all K-12 grade levels Collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and related service providers to create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) Assess students abilities and adapt curriculum materials to meet their unique learning needs Promote independence and confidence in students by integrating adaptive technologies and mobility techniques Maintain up-to-date records and comply with relevant state education standards Location: Oxon Hill, Maryland This role is ideal for dedicated educators passionate about empowering visually impaired students through specialized instruction.
