As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, youll work directly with students who are blind or have low vision, providing individualized instruction in core academics, adaptive skills, and the use of assistive technology. Youll collaborate with general education teachers, families, and specialists to develop accessible learning environments and help students achieve educational goals outlined in their IEPs.
To qualify in Texas, candidates must have a Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or a related field, and hold a Texas teaching certificate with a Visually Impaired (VI) endorsement. Knowledge of braille instruction and experience with assistive technology is highly preferred.
