Position: Full-Time, Immediate Start, Ongoing into Next Year
Pay Rate: Starting at $50.00/hr
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and flexible Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing (DHH) to join our team on an itinerant basis. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students from PreK to 5th grade in various schools across Oakland. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to support a diverse group of students with a variety of hearing needs while driving between schools and providing both direct and consultative services.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct and consultative services for students with hearing impairments in PreK-5th grade at multiple schools around Oakland.
Conduct assessments for initial evaluations and re-evaluations (TRIs) as part of the caseload.
Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that address the needs of students with hearing loss.
Work itinerantly between multiple school sites, requiring regular driving between locations.
Offer strategies and support to school teams to create an inclusive environment for students with hearing impairments.
Monitor student progress and adjust services as needed to ensure optimal educational outcomes.
Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings, and other relevant school functions as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
Valid California teaching credential in Deaf & Hard of Hearing (or equivalent).
Experience working with students from PreK to 5th grade, especially in an itinerant role, is preferred.
Strong knowledge of hearing loss, communication methods, and strategies for supporting students with hearing impairments.
Ability to conduct assessments for initial evaluations and re-evaluations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while traveling between multiple school sites.
Reliable transportation and a valid drivers license are required.
