Position Details
This position is full-time, school year, and is currently located at Forest Park Schools in Iron County beginning with the 2025-26 School Year on or after August 25, 2025. Salary based on experience for placement on the pay grid. Full benefits package available. This job posting will remain open until filled. Title:  Teacher of Cognitively Impaired Report To:  Supervisor of Special Education Length of Contract:  Negotiated School Calendar and In-service hours per the current Master Agreement Employment Status:  Union, Exempt Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in Mental Retardation from an accredited college or university
Valid Michigan Teacher’s certificate in Mental/Cognitive Impairment
Satisfy the requirements of Special Education Rules
Able to physically manage, lift and interact with students of a wide range of physical size and ability as needed.
Driving may be necessary for this position which would require a valid driver’s license. General Description:  Provide quality individualized education programs to students manifesting behavior, academic and social deficits which cannot be remedied in other Special Education programs or in the general education classroom. Provide instruction related to enhancing sensory motor and social emotional growth which is designed to maximize the fullest potential of each student. Essential Functions: Carry out an individualized instructional program for each student assigned which emphasizes self help skills, communication skills, physical and motor development, personal and social adjustment, health and safety, adult living skills, work activity experience, and training for post school placement.
Develop education plans for each student.
Assure that each student’s placement in the program is processed according to established procedures.
Develop goals and short term instructional objectives for each child enrolled in the program.
Confer with other professional personnel concerning the needs of individual students.
Provide the opportunity for the student to be integrated with his normal peers through field trips and leisure time activities.
Supervise and coordinate the total activities of the teacher aides.
Participate as a member of the IEPT upon request.
Assist in the preparation of goals and instructional objectives for the cognitively impaired program.
Conduct a review of all students in accordance with procedures.
Meet timelines for Annual, Evaluation Review, and Redetermination IEP meetings for each child enrolled in program.
Maintain confidentiality with respect to student information.
Complete all required written reports and billing in a timely fashion.
Must have regular and reliable attendance. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents demonstration how to be a responsible citizen and productive member of society.
Adhere to DIISD Code of Ethics.
Ability to carry out other associated duties as assigned by administration Additional Working Conditions: Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluid and tissue.
With reimbursement, may be required to use personal vehicle to perform job related functions.
