Position Summary: The Robert L. Frost Middle School in Lawrence, Massachusetts seeks a Music Instructor for grades 5-8. The FRM Music Appreciation instructor teaches general music to students in grades 5 through 8, including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble. The teacher is encouraged to use a repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of all students with the intent to provide opportunities for music ensembles. The music instructor will differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and that of the student body to plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time. The music teacher establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances and communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students. The music teacher is responsible for the upkeep for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse and will work in cooperation with staff to provide musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: •Take responsibility to be a strong, positive force daily in their classroom - consistently and thoughtfully motivate students to work hard and want to learn. •Design, implement, and collaborate around high-quality shared curricula that incorporate research-based strategies to help students master Massachusetts and Common Core standards. •Motivate students to reach high achievement by setting class-wide and individual goals and provide specific and actionable feedback to students on their progress towards academic goals. •Build supportive working relationships with fellow teachers, associate teachers, and staff, and provide regular feedback to help develop associate teachers. •Other responsibilities as needed and assigned by administration.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: •Developing lesson plans and instructional materials for music classes. •Teaching students the fundamentals of music theory and music appreciation, including rhythm, harmony, and scales. •Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment
Qualifications & Requirements: •Massachusetts Teacher Certification in appropriate area (Licensure in Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General) •Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels •Bachelor's Degree Required •Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment •Bilingual in Spanish is preferred
