Position Details Oakland Academy is looking for a Teacher Mentor to join our team! $1,500 Sign On Bonus!
Oakland Academy  is dedicated to delivering a high-quality education that reflects our mission, vision, and core values. We are seeking a committed and dynamic  Teacher/Mentor  to serve students in grades 3–6 by providing differentiated instruction, targeted remediation, and meaningful mentorship. This position requires strong instructional expertise as well as the ability to build positive, supportive relationships that foster academic achievement and social-emotional growth.
Although students attend on-site classes only two days per week, the teacher is expected to be on campus each school day to fully support the learning process. On off-site days, the teacher remains actively engaged by assisting students with coursework, leading virtual instruction in individual, small group, or whole-class settings, and maintaining consistent communication with Learning Coaches (parents). The teacher also works closely with students to  accelerate academic performance, close achievement gaps, and improve outcomes on classroom and standardized assessments .
Because this role involves a blend of on-site and virtual instruction, the ideal candidate must be  comfortable using educational technology, confident navigating digital tools, and able to adapt quickly to an online learning environment . Strong technical skills and a flexible, solutions-oriented mindset are essential to supporting students and families effectively in a blended learning model.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Support Deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in both on-site and virtual settings.
Differentiate instruction and provide targeted remediation based on individual student needs.
Provide one-on-one and small group support to help close achievement gaps.
Prepare weekly lesson plans that are data-informed and aligned with instructional goals.
Guide students in setting academic goals, tracking progress, and developing leadership skills.
Support students with basic technical troubleshooting to ensure consistent access to learning.
Demonstrate strong technical proficiency, confidently use educational technology, and adapt quickly to an online learning environment. Assessment & Data Analysis Analyze data from state, district, and classroom assessments to inform instruction and interventions.
Monitor student attendance, academic progress, and content mastery weekly.
Participate in and administer state and benchmark assessments in person.
Maintain timely and accurate records of student performance and schedules. Family & Learning Coach Communication Maintain consistent two-way communication with families and Learning Coaches (parents) each week.
Provide Learning Coaches with instructional strategies, tools, and updates to support student success.
Respond promptly and professionally to emails, calls, and texts from students, families, and staff.
Provide ongoing engagement support, including outreach through calls, texts, emails, and participation in in-person events. Classroom Management & School Support Supervise students in classrooms and common areas (hallways, cafeteria, etc.).
Enforce school policies and procedures to ensure a safe, orderly learning environment.
Prepare and leave sub-plans in the event of absence.
Resolve student and family concerns quickly and professionally.
Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Substitute or provide instructional support in classrooms as needed. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree required.
Michigan Teaching Certification in the assigned grade level or content area.
Pre-service teaching experience as required for certification.
Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and analyze assessment data.
Experience working with elementary students (3-6) preferred.
Familiarity with state testing protocols and assessment administration.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including experience engaging families. Additional Information This is a full-time, salaried position requiring 40+ hours per week, Monday through Friday, with additional hours as necessary.
Although direct student contact is scheduled two days per week on-site, the teacher is expected to report to school daily to fulfill all responsibilities.
The role requires consistent attendance and collaboration with school staff and families to support student success. Tuition Reimbursement Program
Oakland Academy proudly partners with  Grand Valley State University (GVSU)  to offer a  tuition reimbursement benefit  to full-time employees pursuing graduate coursework: 50% tuition reimbursement  through GVSU for eligible coursework.
After  five years of employment , the reimbursement increases to  80% .
This benefit supports ongoing professional development and teacher certification advancement.
