Responsibilities
- Instructing preschool aged children in activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth.
- Establishing and enforcing rules to promote positive behavior.
- Creating weekly lesson plans.
- Writing monthly anecdotal records, assessments and portfolio.
- Organizing and leading activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling and field trips.
- Perform other duties as required by manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Education or Early Childhood preferred)
- Clearance through New York State Central Registry and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services
- First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Responding to Emergency (RTE) certification, or ability to obtain within 3-6 months
- Proficiency in English required; proficiency in a second language preferred
- Two years of experience working in a day care, pre-school, or special education setting preferred
- Clearance through New York State Central Registry (SCR), New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Justice Center’s Staff Exclusion List (SEL) and Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) required upon hire
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow all OSHA requirements
- Assist Program Director or Program Coordinator with the development of program goals and early childhood activities
- Assist in preparation of lesson plans in compliance with ACD regulations
- Create a nurturing and supportive environment for children
- Implement various early childhood educational, recreational and social activities that foster development and growth
- Engage children in team building activities
- Assist an individual child or group of children with dressing and toilet training; change diapers; ensure sanitary conditions
- Provide classroom management
- Attend regular staff meetings
- Attend training sessions and workshops on early childhood education
- Meet monthly with program coordinator and/or program director for supervision
- Act as a liaison with parents
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Skills/Abilities
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Good writing skills
- Ability to work with infants and preschool children from the ages of 0-5 years
