Minimum 1+ years visually impaired experience required. A full-time Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) is needed for a K-12 school near Norfolk/Chesapeake, VA. This itinerant contract position runs from August 18, 2025, through May 30, 2026, with a typical schedule of 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours per week.

This role involves working closely with a caseload of students ranging from elementary through high school levels. The position requires providing specialized instruction tailored to students' varying visual impairments, including braille support for a legally blind elementary student. Collaboration is essential, as the teacher will work alongside Orientation & Mobility specialists, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists to support student development. Key responsibilities include: Delivering comprehensive visual impairment instruction across K-12 grade levels Individualizing lessons and adapting materials to meet specific needs Facilitating braille literacy and other communication techniques for visually impaired students Coordinating services with supporting therapists and educational staff Maintaining accurate progress documentation and communication with families and team members Preferred qualifications and experience: Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) Experience working with students from elementary through high school levels Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team Knowledge of braille instruction and assistive technology integration This position is currently onsite and full day. While vocational training (VOCO) is not part of the program at this time, efforts are underway to secure support personnel to assist students one-on-one, enhancing instructional opportunities.
