Join our team as a Head Start Teacher Assistant! Seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual passionate about making a difference in young children’s lives.

Position: Teacher Assistant

Program and Location: Head Start, Kearney

Position Summary: The Teacher Assistant is responsible for providing Teacher support in the classroom. They also provide a safe, pleasant, active learning and problem-solving environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with implementation of the curriculum, which includes active learning and practices that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Assist with completion of the Child Assessment to document child outcomes through anecdotal notes and other documentation.
  • Assist in conducting initial and mid-year home visits along with parent/staff conferences.
  • Assume the role and responsibility of other center positions during staff absences.
  • Assist in classroom management and lesson planning/implementation.
  • Assist in the implementation of oral health practices.
  • Assist in meeting Individual Education Plan goals.
  • Be actively engaged in all Head Start activities and model appropriate behavior.

Tasks and Duties:

  • Assist with completion of development and social emotional screenings for each child.
  • Assist Teacher in completing child growth assessments.
  • Assist with completion of Child Development Plans.
  • Assist with and attend Head Start events as needed.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Individuals without a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential must be willing to enroll in a child development associate credential program to be completed within 2 years. Head Start will pay for and assist in the completion of a CDA for the right candidate!

Schedule/Hours: 40 hours per week for 39 weeks per year. Scheduled hours are generally between 7:30 am – 3:30 pm Monday – Friday. This position has summer months off.

Pay Rate: Starting wage ranges from $16.00 - $17.50. Starting pay will be based on certifications and experience.
