Physical Education/Health Teacher - Elementary
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, the State of DE, and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program.
- Understands the gymnasium is also a multi-purpose room and is considered a "shared space."
- Identifies alternative locations (playground, blacktop, classrooms, etc) to hold classes while multi-purpose room is in use.
- Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games and fundamentals of body movement.
- Leads the staff in physical wellness activities, serves as co-wellness liaison.
- Provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil to the extent feasible.
- Teaches physical education classes for all student activity levels/abilities, as necessary.
- Utilizes the School-Wide Tier 1 Systems of Support - Leader in Me.
- Teaches the health curriculum.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils.
- Maintains control and organizes storage and use of school-owned property.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Evaluates each pupil's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports.
- Does morning, lunch, and dismissal duties as assigned.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Selects and creates requisitions or grants for uniforms, equipment, and instructional aids, and supplies.
- Maintains required inventory records.
- Communicates with parents, school nurse, and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Participates on the Problem Solving Team (PST) and Leader In Me Action Teams or their equivalents.
- Cooperates and participates with school administration, PTA meetings, assemblies, and interscholastic athletic events.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Coaches extracurricular athletic activities/teams.
- Completes Standards Based Grading/Grade Reporting/Progress Reports.
- Other duties as assigned by administration.
