Substitute teachers

Under the general supervision of the school principal, to implement lesson plans and assigned duties left by the classroom teacher. Substitute teachers may be called upon to fill a variety of instructional and/or supervisory duties at the elementary and/or secondary level on an "as needed" basis.
Essential Functions:
The following description is illustrative of the tasks and responsibilities associated with this position. It is not meant to be an inclusive list of every task or responsibility.
- Reviews all lesson plans and assigned duties to be completed during the day.
- Teaches the lesson(s) outlined and described in the lesson plan as prepared by the absent teacher.
- Follows all district policies and procedures as outlined in the district's substitute teacher handbook.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conductive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Maintains, as much as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school or classroom to which the substitute teacher is assigned.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment:
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements:
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff members.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
- Works in standard school building environment
- Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Qualification Profile:
- Certification:
- Substitute teaching permit issued by the Nebraska Department of Education.
- Nebraska Certification as an elementary, secondary, or special education teacher (preferred).
- Education:
- Minimum of 60 college hours from an accredited, post-secondaery institution.
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).
- Experience: Successful prior experience working with children (preferred).
