Position Summary:
The SEED Miami Substitute Teacher is responsible for delivering instruction and managing the classroom environment in the absence of the regular teacher. This role ensures that students continue learning and remain productive during the teacher’s absence, following lesson plans and school policies. This role will recognize and embrace that they are responsible for the academic, social, and emotional development of children and build relationships with students, families, and colleagues to actualize our mission.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Follow and implement the lesson plans left by the regular teacher or academic administrator.
- Establish and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and student success
- Instruct students using the appropriate materials and methods provided.
- Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, lunchroom, and other areas as needed.
- Record attendance and submit required documentation to the front office.
- Communicate any incidents or concerns to the school administrator.
- Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, staff development programs, and other school-sponsored activities
- Participate in summer programming (June and August), including direct service to incoming and returning SEED youth and curriculum work with colleagues, as needed.
- Adapt quickly to different classroom environments and grade levels as needed.
- Actively build strong relationships with parents and families that foster trust, collaboration, and communication
- Professionally assess students’ learning and communicate students’ progress to parents and fellow teachers to facilitate future instruction.
- Leave detailed notes for the regular teacher about the day’s activities and student progress, when applicable.
- Adhere to the professional and ethical standards as outlined in the SEED Miami Staff Manual
- Perform other tasks as required and/or assigned by supervisor(s).

- A minimum of an Associate’s Degree or, Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Knowledge and skill base in mathematics, geometry, science, and/or Electives.
- Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting is preferred.
- Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively.
