Substitute teachers serve as critical instructional leaders in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. They are responsible for maintaining established routines and procedures, executing lesson plans as provided, ensuring a safe and supportive classroom environment, and fostering student learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement lesson plans left by the absent teacher and follow routine classroom schedules.
- Provide clear instruction and facilitate student understanding of the subject matter.
- Maintain classroom discipline, order, and control in accordance with school and classroom guidelines.
- Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning objectives.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with administrators, staff, and students.
- Demonstrate reliability, adaptability, and moral character consistent with the values of the school.
- Minimum: Associate's degree or at least 60 college credit hours.
- Preferred: Experience as a substitute teacher or work with children and/or adolescents.
- Must pass state and local background checks and meet health/safety requirements as mandated by law.
- $115/day: For substitutes meeting minimum qualifications (Associate's degree or 60 credit hours; not licensed).
- $140/day: For licensed or retired North Carolina teachers.
- Substitutes are employed on an on-call, as-needed basis.
- Assignments vary by teacher absence and school needs.
- Opportunities for both short-term (day-to-day) and long-term placements may be available.
