Role: SPED Elementary Teacher

Reports to: Principal and SPED Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Contract Days: 190 days

Retirement: TRS

Key Duties and Responsibilities

? Teach at an appropriate instructional level using appropriate, research-based methodology for instruction.

? Ensure full implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for caseload students, including but not limited to, implementation of accommodations, Behavior Intervention Plans BIPs) and related services.

? Develop, monitor and review the Individual Education Program (IEP) of each caseload student

annually or more frequently if needed.

? Use data to monitor student progress and respond to adequate and inadequate student performance.

? Compile, maintain and submit all required reports in a timely manner (e.g., IEP, FTE, progress reports, etc.)

? Maintain open communication in a cooperative working manner with parents regarding their student's educational program.

? Support students with encouragement

? Implement assistive and instructional technology as directed by IEP, including providing technical assistance to all professionals working with students and/or families where appropriate.

? Utilize positive behavior techniques to maintain appropriate student behavior in the classroom.

? Collaborate with other educators and related service providers to ensure student progress.

? Demonstrate knowledge of special education regulations and state board rules pertaining to students with disabilities.

? Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.

? Follow professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, students' records, parents, and colleagues.

? Ensure adherence to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia, as established by the Georgia

Professional Standards Commission.

? Integrate the use of effective technology in the curriculum.

? Participate in training programs and apply learned concepts in the classroom to increase student learning.

? Review current development literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.

? Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures.

? Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies and administrative directives.

? Perform all prescribed activities outlined in the Professional Development Plan according to the time lines indicated.

? Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

? Hold or be eligible for required certification.

? Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.

? High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.

? Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.

? Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.

? Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.

? Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.

? Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.

? Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students particularly during emergency situations.
