Join Our Team: Vision Services Educator (TVI) – 2025–2026 Academic Year
We’re currently looking for a passionate and student-focused Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our school-based team for the 2025–2026 academic year. This full-time opportunity allows you to work with students across a range of grade levels, helping them build independence, access educational content, and reach their personal and academic goals.
We’re seeking a flexible, team-oriented educator who brings expertise in serving students with visual impairments. In this role, you’ll assess student needs, provide individualized instruction, and support classroom teams through consultation and material modifications to ensure inclusive access.
Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing IEPs tailored to each student’s unique visual and learning needs. You’ll deliver direct instruction in Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility (if certified), while adapting educational content for full accessibility. This role involves close collaboration with general education staff, families, and related service providers to create a cohesive support network. You’ll also conduct functional vision assessments and learning media evaluations, using this data to select appropriate tools and strategies for instruction. Ongoing monitoring of student progress, consistent documentation, and compliance with special education guidelines are key components of this position. Above all, you’ll foster a safe and empowering classroom environment that promotes student confidence and autonomy. Regular family communication will ensure that progress and support remain aligned across school and home.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Visual Impairments. Experience working with students who have a range of visual impairments, including those with additional needs, is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technologies, large print materials, and accessible instructional design is essential. Ideal candidates will demonstrate excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills. A bachelor’s degree in Visual Impairments or Special Education is required, with a master’s degree strongly preferred.
