JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: (1) Eligible for a Professional Educator License and (2) qualified in area of teaching as required by the Illinois State Board of Education
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To create a nurturing environment, challenging all students to reach their highest potential, and help all learners acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and personal esteem for life-long learning in a changing world.
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: As established by the Riverton Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement
EVALUATION: Annually as established by Board Policy
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create lesson plans using a wide variety of effective pedagogical approaches to link related topics and disciplines in order to ensure student understanding.
Provide instruction that proactively discovers student misconceptions and misunderstandings.
Use ongoing methods to assess student skill level and use knowledge of individual student backgrounds and needs in developing and implementing lesson plans.
Maintain and communicate rigorous learning standards using outcomes that take into account the varying needs of individual students.
Develop and maintain extensive resources, both through the school and the community, to enhance student learning.
Provide instructional methods and activities that challenge students while being differentiated appropriately for individual learners.
Develop and implement assessments fully aligned with instructional outcomes and learning standards.
Create a respectful and caring classroom environment.
Promote student ownership of their learning.
Maximize instructional time through efficient routines and student management of instructional groups, transitions, and the handling of materials.
Manage student behavior through subtle and preventative measures.
Use expressive language to clearly explain content and develop student conceptual understanding.
Develop robust questioning strategies that promote higher-order thinking, encouraging student initiated questions.
Engage students throughout a class period with intellectually challenging content and well-designed learning activities.
Create assessments that are fully integrated into instruction, including opportunities for students to self-assess and monitor their own progress.
Show flexibility in responding to student needs, enhancing or adjusting individual lessons to meet student learning needs.
Self-reflect on lesson effectiveness and determine alternative approaches for future lessons.
Maintain an effective system for keeping student records, including grading and student progress in learning.
Communicate frequently and appropriately with families, encouraging family engagement in the instructional program.
Provide support and cooperation with colleagues while being actively involved in the school community.
Seek out opportunities for professional development, including seeking feedback from supervisors and colleagues.
Promote a school environment that holds the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality.
