The Special Education Teacher will oversee the education and training of students with physical, emotional, mental, and learning disabilities who will design and deliver lessons geared towards the individual needs and capabilities of the students under their supervision. Duties include:
Differentiate curriculum to support students learning styles and current achievement levels Provide clear goals and objectives for each student; create written reports and report cards for each student Teach content and skills to assigned students utilizing common core aligned curriculum and approved courses of study Develop strategies for maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning and utilize effective teaching methods; employ a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to the maturity, interests, and needs of each student Identify need for diagnostic testing, identify student capabilities and monitor student progress on a regular basis to ensure that goals are being met Maintain accurate and complete student records and complete all record keeping/ administrative responsibilities on time as required by law and Pinnacle policies Consult and collaborate with colleagues and outside professionals Establish and maintain positive relationships with students based upon trust and mutual respect Qualifications Certification: You must have a current State of Connecticut Teacher Certification with one of the following endorsements: 051, 053, 065, 165, or 265, for grades K-12. Education: A bachelor's degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or High School Education is required. Experience: A minimum of two years of experience teaching special education students with language-based learning differences. Specialized Knowledge: Proficiency with the IEP (Individualized Education Program) process and the ability to collect progress monitoring data. Soft Skills: Must possess excellent communication skills, a collaborative and enthusiastic attitude, and a strong commitment to student success. Preferred Qualifications Advanced Degree: A master's degree is preferred. Language Skills: Fluency in oral and written Spanish, French Creole, or Portuguese a great plus
