Core Responsibilities of the Special Education Teacher

Design and execute individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet the distinct educational needs and goals of each student.

Partner with general education teachers and support staff to adapt instructional methods and materials for effective inclusion.

Implement a variety of teaching techniques and utilize technology to engage students and enhance learning.

Evaluate student progress frequently and adjust teaching approaches as necessary to accommodate various learning styles.

Provide focused, direct instruction in both inclusive and small-group settings when needed.

Deploy effective behavior management strategies to support students' social and emotional development.

Qualifications Needed for the Role

Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related discipline; a master's degree is preferred.

Active teaching certification in Special Education for middle school is mandatory.

Effective experience working with students facing a wide array of learning challenges, including learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral issues.

Solid understanding of special education laws and regulatory frameworks.

Capability to customize teaching methods to address different learning preferences.

Strong communication and collaboration skills for effective interaction with students, families, and colleagues.
