Position Overview: The school is seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team in Annapolis, MD. The ideal candidate will provide individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring their academic and personal success. This position requires a dynamic educator committed to fostering an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities: Instructional Planning and Delivery: Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. Design engaging lesson plans that align with state standards and accommodate diverse learning styles. Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and assistive technologies to support student learning.
Student Support and Assessment: Monitor and assess student progress regularly, adapting instruction as necessary to meet goals. Provide direct instruction in small group or one-on-one settings to address specific skill deficits. Foster social, emotional, and academic growth by promoting positive behavior and self-advocacy skills.
Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure student success. Actively participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and team planning sessions. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and strategies for support.
Classroom Management: Create a structured, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment conducive to learning. Implement behavior management strategies to support positive student interactions and engagement.
Professional Development: Stay current with best practices and legal requirements in special education through ongoing professional learning. Participate in school-wide training, workshops, and collaborative initiatives.
Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field. Maryland State Certification in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain certification). Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including developmental, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Strong knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and compliance. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. A commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a growth mindset. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with assistive technology and adaptive learning tools. Familiarity with evidence-based instructional strategies and behavior management techniques.
