A special education teacher position is available for the 2025-2026 school year at an elementary school serving students in grades K-5. This contract role focuses on supporting students with life skills and severe or multiple cognitive disabilities. The assignment begins on August 25, 2025, and concludes on June 10, 2026, with working hours from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to students with severe cognitive disabilities and multiple disabilities.
Provide specialized instruction and life skills training to a caseload of approximately 12 students.
Collaborate closely with 7 educational technicians (paras) assigned to the classroom to deliver consistent and effective support.
Monitor student progress and communicate with families and interdisciplinary teams.
Maintain compliance with state regulations and special education standards.
Desired Qualifications:
Maine educator certification 282 or an out-of-state reciprocal equivalent specific to special education.
Experience working with students who have severe or multiple disabilities, particularly cognitive challenges.
Capability to manage a specialized caseload and lead a team of paraprofessionals.
Strong communication and teamwork skills to foster positive environments for student growth.
