Position Purpose: This role coordinates and delivers specialized instructional programs for students with disabilities based on their Individual Education Programs (IEPs). The educator will monitor and evaluate educational programs, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, while maintaining confidentiality and fostering a conducive learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Strong expertise in instructional practices related to specially designed instruction.
Thorough understanding of general content curriculum standards and age-appropriate developmental guidelines.
Solid knowledge of state and federal policies governing services for students with disabilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Apps.
Effective critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Understanding of the importance of confidentiality as mandated by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented setting.
Skill in motivating and engaging students.
Capability to monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of students.
Ability to support diverse students with various backgrounds, needs, and learning styles.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, using a variety of techniques to ensure effective information flow.
Proficiency in building effective relationships with staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders.
Education, Training, and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Certification and License Requirements
Must possess or be eligible for a Professional Educator's License in an Exceptional Children's teaching area in North Carolina.
A valid motor vehicle operator's license is mandatory, following state regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in First Aid and CPR.
Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification is a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Create and implement IEPs for students with disabilities, using diagnostic data to update them as needed.
Utilize instructional strategies and progress monitoring tools to provide tailored support.
Assist students in achieving curriculum objectives and reaching IEP goals.
Apply a range of teaching methods, accommodations, and modifications to meet student needs.
Oversee student behavior, maintaining discipline, and teaching appropriate behavioral strategies.
Evaluate student work and progress, adjusting instruction to address educational needs.
Participate in IEP meetings as a collaborative team member.
Stay informed about trends and best practices by attending professional development and engaging with other educators.
Perform additional related duties as required.
Working Conditions:
Physical Environment: Must be able to use office equipment, and possess communication skills. Physical demands include lifting, carrying, or applying force up to 50 pounds occasionally, with requirements aligning with medium work standards. The school can provide assistance for proper lifting techniques as needed.
Work Environment: Work will occur in both classroom and office settings, with direct interactions involving school staff, students, parents, and the community.
