Position Summary:
Applied ABC is seeking an experienced and passionate Special Education Teacher Mentor to guide and support teacher candidates who are actively pursuing and working on their New Hampshire state licensure. This pivotal role will provide individualized mentorship, practical guidance, and professional development to ensure our teacher candidates are well-equipped to meet the rigorous demands of special education in New Hampshire and achieve successful licensure.
Key Responsibilities:
Individualized Mentorship: Provide one-on-one coaching, guidance, and support to special education teacher candidates throughout their licensure journey in New Hampshire.
Licensure Pathway Navigation: Assist candidates in understanding and navigating the New Hampshire Department of Education's licensure requirements, including the Statement of Eligibility (SOE), Intern Authorization, Site-Based Licensing Plans (SBLP), and relevant Praxis exams (e.g., Pearson Foundations of Reading, Special Education content exams).
Professional Development: Develop and deliver targeted professional development sessions, workshops, and resources on best practices in special education, classroom management, individualized education program (IEP) development and implementation, data collection, and evidence-based interventions (including Applied Behavior Analysis - ABA principles where applicable).
Curriculum and Instruction Support: Offer practical strategies and resources for adapting curriculum, differentiating instruction, and creating inclusive learning environments for students with diverse learning needs, including those with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, and emotional dysregulation.
Observation and Feedback: Conduct classroom observations (in-person or virtual) and provide constructive feedback to teacher candidates to refine their instructional practices and classroom management skills.
Documentation and Compliance: Guide candidates in maintaining accurate documentation related to student progress, IEPs, and New Hampshire state special education regulations.
Collaboration: Foster a collaborative learning environment, encouraging peer support and sharing of best practices among teacher candidates.
Problem-Solving: Assist candidates in troubleshooting challenges related to classroom dynamics, student behavior, and professional growth.
Relationship Building: Build strong, supportive relationships with teacher candidates, fostering their confidence and commitment to the special education profession.
Reporting: Provide regular updates to Applied ABC management on the progress of teacher candidates and identify areas for additional support.
Qualifications:
Valid and current New Hampshire Special Education Teacher licensure (experienced educator level required).
Master's degree in Special Education or a related field (preferred but not required).
Minimum of 5 years of successful experience as a Special Education Teacher in New Hampshire, with a strong understanding of state and federal special education laws and regulations.
Demonstrated experience mentoring or coaching new teachers, student teachers, or aspiring educators.
In-depth knowledge of various special education methodologies, instructional strategies, and assessment tools.
Familiarity with the New Hampshire Department of Education's educator credentialing process and requirements.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to provide constructive feedback and foster a growth mindset.
Passion for supporting the next generation of special education teachers.
Flexibility to provide both remote and on-site support across New Hampshire as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and their application in educational settings.
