Position Purpose:
Join our dedicated team as a Special Education Teacher for students with severe intellectual disabilities. You will play a crucial role in coordinating and delivering instructional programs tailored to the individual needs of our special education students and their Individual Education Programs (IEPs). Minimum Qualifications:
Comprehensive knowledge of instructional practices and specially designed instruction.
Solid understanding of general content curriculum standards and appropriate developmental expectations for students.
In-depth knowledge of state and federal policies regarding students with disabilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiar with Google Apps.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and other regulations.
Collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment.
A talent for motivating and inspiring students.
Vigilance in monitoring the safety and well-being of students.
Adept at recognizing and supporting diverse student backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Proven ability to maintain strong working relationships with staff, students, families, and the community.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Certification and License Requirements:
Possess or be eligible for a Professional Educator's License in an Exceptional Children's teaching area in North Carolina.
A valid motor vehicle operator's license as per state requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
First Aid and CPR certifications.
Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement IEPs for students with disabilities; utilize assessments to update IEPs as necessary.
Apply instructional strategies and monitoring tools to provide customized instruction.
Assist students in completing curriculum tasks and achieving IEP goals.
Employ varied teaching methods and adapt materials to fit student needs.
Monitor student behavior; maintain classroom discipline and teach appropriate behavioral strategies.
Evaluate student work and adjust instruction based on progress and needs.
Participate in IEP meetings as a collaborative team member.
Stay informed of educational trends and participate in ongoing professional development.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Physical Environment: You will frequently use office equipment such as computers and printers, and may need to lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally. School staff can provide assistance as needed.
Work Environment: The role requires working in both classroom and office settings, with direct contact with students, parents, and school staff.
