TLP (Therapeutic Learning Program) is a special education program designed to provide supports and services to students with social-emotional and behavioral disabilities. Supports are provided in both a substantial separate setting and in the general education classroom. The role and responsibilities of the special education teacher of TLP is:
Establish and maintain a safe learning environment which supports students in developing and applying the knowledge and skills necessary to function successfully in the school setting Provide direct instruction in social skills and emotional regulation skills based on student goal areas Plan and implement academic instruction at a variety of instructional levels utilizing grade level materials and modified curriculum Support student participation in meaningful integration opportunities Lead a collaborative team of support staff Consult with a variety of related service providers including: program clinician, school adjustment counselor, school psychologist, speech and language teacher, and occupational therapist Work with parents/guardians and outside community agencies to provide collaborative services Perform the duties of special education teacher including: acting as a liaison, academic testing, writing IEPs and progress reports, and attending team meetings
