Job Summary: The Special Education Teacher in the Cross-Categorical Self-Contained Room is responsible for delivering specialized instruction to students with a range of disabilities in a self-contained setting. This role requires a deep understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs), behavior management strategies, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelors Degree
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
Certification – Cognitively Impaired
Qualifications Desired:
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Ability to effectively assign and utilize paraprofessionals
Additional certification in another area of special education
Experience with Elementary school level cognitively impaired students
Integrates technology into the curriculum
Demonstrates effective classroom management
Possesses a caring, creative, energetic personality
Ability to work with behavior issues and plans
Ability to develop and assist with student hygiene and toileting plans
Proficient with data collection and analysis
Meets Highly Qualified status to teach in a core area of instruction
Ability to work within a departmentalized special education program
CPR Certified and CPI trained
Job Description
Provide instruction to students
Analysis of student data
Responsible for all IEP paperwork
Responsible for implementing curriculum to CI students at their level
Complete Medicaid billing
Communicate with parents and mainstream teachers
Position requires occasional lifting
Physical Requirements:
This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking.
The position requires occasional lifting of supplies and movement of classroom furnishings during the course of the school day.
Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with the possibility of some travel to other schools or field trip locations.
Work Year & Salary: Per the MDMEA bargaining unit agreement
Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life, long-term disability and paid time off per the bargaining unit contract
