QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a special education endorsement
Experience working with students in groups and individually, in the classroom and other settings,
Ability to complete/ maintain required records, forms, and reports in a professional and timely manner.
Ability to develop an IEP based on data that is appropriate to the needs of the student,
Ability to cooperatively participate in Child Study Teams, team evaluations, and IEPs
Ability to work independently and to contribute as a member of a team,
Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate behavior plans for use in all education settings.
Understanding of behavioral intervention techniques to support individual student and program structure, including the use of data from functional behavior analysis to guide the development of behavior intervention supports,
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program
Ability to develop and modify curriculum with emphasis on personal adjustment, regulation of emotions, communication, social skills, and academics;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the job functions include establishing and maintaining relationships, adapting to changing work priorities, maintaining confidentiality, exhibiting tact and patience, working flexible hours, and being able to withstand the physical and mental rigors of teaching.
This position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with students, the public, and other staff members daily.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position requires teaching and consultative skills in working with general education teachers and the ability to modify curricula with appropriate accommodations and strategies to accommodate students with IEPs in general education and special education settings.
Responsible for collaboration & course planning, skill assessment, & instruction.
Provide case management services to students with IEPs
Ensure all students on caseload are being educated in the least restrictive enviroment and participating with not disabled students to the fullest extent possible.
Participate in professional development and implement best practices.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Administers and develops subject-specific assessments to assess student competency levels and/or develop individual learning plans.
Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
Accommodates students with learning difficulties, regularly seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by administration.
