Special Education Co-Teacher (Grades 3-5)

The Third - Fifth Grade Special Education Co-Teacher will work collaboratively with a general education teacher to provide high-quality instruction and support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in an inclusive classroom setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of co-teaching models, be skilled in differentiation, and be committed to helping all students achieve academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Collaboration & Co-Teaching
Implement a variety of co-teaching models (e.g., team teaching, parallel teaching, station teaching, alternative teaching, one teach/one support) based on student needs and instructional goals. Co-plan daily and weekly lessons with the general education teacher to ensure instruction is accessible and appropriately modified for students with IEPs. Provide small-group or individualized instruction within the general education classroom. Use data to inform instruction, support student progress, and modify interventions as needed.
IEP Support & Compliance
Assist in the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the IEP team, including parents, service providers, and school administrators. Monitor the implementation of IEP goals and accommodations/modifications within the general education classroom. Maintain accurate documentation of student progress toward IEP goals. Attend and actively participate in IEP meetings and other related meetings.
Communication & Collaboration
Maintain ongoing communication with general education teachers, service providers, families, and administrators regarding student progress and needs. Collaborate with support staff and related service providers (e.g., speech/language therapists, occupational therapists, counselors) to align services. Actively participate in professional learning communities, team meetings, and staff development opportunities.
Classroom Management & Environment
Support a positive and inclusive classroom environment that meets the academic, social, and emotional needs of all learners. Assist in implementing behavioral strategies and interventions as outlined in student IEPs or behavior plans.
Professional Responsibilities
Uphold all district, state, and federal special education laws and guidelines. Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards. Participate in ongoing professional development related to special education, instructional strategies, and co-teaching best practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Master's preferred). Valid Georgia Special Education Certification (P-5). Experience in co-teaching and inclusive education preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative teaching environment.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced school setting Regular interaction with students, parents, staff, and community members Requires occasional lifting of supplies/materials (up to 25 lbs)
