Job Overview: To plan, organize, and implement a grade level appropriate instructional program in a middle school science classroom that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Help students develop the skills and strategies for scientific problem solving

Understand the basic concepts of science.

Show students what scientists do as individuals and as a community.

Demonstrate and model how scientific hypotheses are created and tested.

Lead students to make educated hypotheses or predictions as to possible outcomes of a process or experiment.

Model safety in the classroom with teacher-selected equipment for observation and measurement.

Teach students how to record data in an objective fashion using pictures, writing, and charts.

Create standard based lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.

Maintain grade books in Power School that are updated regularly.

Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.

Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

Assist with arrivals and dismissal of students.

Assist with coverage of other classes as needed.

Communicate with parents/guardians.

Collaborate with other colleagues.

Selects books, instructional aids and supplies that aid in the teaching of the curriculum.

Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, Principal or his/her designee.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher.

One or more years of teaching experience.

Communication skills and interpersonal skills preferred.

PA Certification.
