Job Summary: School Age Teachers are responsible for the supervision of children in their care. Duties and responsibilities of School Age Teachers include developing and delivering interactive learning programs designed to engage and educate school age children.

You MUST love to give hugs, wipe boogers, hold a crying toddler, get a dental inspection by a two-year-old, have pretend conversation "on the phone" into a block, and most of all eat pretend food like a champ! Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips. Attend to school age children's basic needs and ensuring their safety while inside the center. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. Tailor lesson plans each week to support the collaboration with local school districts. Organize and support differing children's learning schedules within the class. Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Collaborate with parents to ensure instruction follows local school district guidelines. Able to stand for long periods of time, frequent walking, sitting on the floor and playing with children, being able to lift up to a 40lb child in an emergency situation. You must be able to get up off the floor and stand up quickly. Must be able to participate and lead children in various school events and programs such as Birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, etc. A loving demeanor with children. You must be prepared to laugh, love, and learn more about children than you ever have. Job Qualifications: A Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field AND / OR 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) Units. Must be able to speak English clearly and be able to communicate with other staff and parents clearly. Spanish speaking is a plus. A Statement signed by a physician that the applicant is in good health and free from health problems which would have a harmful effect on children or co- workers or would interfere with effective functioning. Must be able to pass FBI Fingerprint, DOJ and Child Abuse index background check. Certification in California Childcare First Aid & CPR. Physical & Environmental Requirements: With or without reasonable accommodation this position requires: Extensive standing and walking; sitting on the floor and on low (12") chairs. Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling. Lifting and carrying children extensively in the infant/toddler program; less frequently in the preschool program, but the children are heavier. Frequent moving of equipment (Cots, tables, etc.). Pushing children in buggies, strollers, and walking for considerable periods of time. The necessity of being outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to unpleasant odors and fluids caused by vomit (occasional) and bodily elimination. Relatively frequent exposure to loud noises (baby crying, toys falling and other common occurrences of children at play).
