Special Needs Resource Teacher
Job Description
Purpose and Scope
Under the general supervision of the teacher/principal, the resource teacher will provide instructional support for students with special needs. The resource teacher is responsible for ensuring that student service plans are followed in order for special needs students to take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Essential Job Functions
Work with classroom teachers to ensure they understand and implement the accommodations and modifications in student service plans.
ELA direct support: Teach/instruct students, grades K-5, in small groups or individually for the purpose of ensuring successful progress towards student's goals and objectives.
Consult/collaborate with staff, parents, and agencies for the purpose of ensuring appropriate delivery of services and adherence to due process.
Attend meetings and in-services as required by the principal.
Treat confidential information about students, staff, and school affairs in a professional and ethical manner.
Establish and maintain cooperative, supportive and effective relationships with all school and parish personnel.
Must be punctual and on time for work
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Catholics must be willing to make a public profession of faith. Non-Catholic must be willing to sign the Diocese of Phoenix Division of Education and Evangelization Profession of Faith form
Effectively communicates with students, parents and staff
Communicates in English at a level sufficient for successful job performance
Meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Education
Valid teaching certificate
Specialized training related to the position (special education coursework, Reading Specialist certificate, etc.).
Department of Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
Minimum three years teaching experience.
Must participate in Safe Environment (Called to Protect) Training and sign the Code of Ethics Policy
Fingerprinting and Tuberculin tests and any other requirements shall be obtained prior to employment according to the Arizona Department of Health Services, Diocese of Phoenix and the Arizona State Dept. of Education
