Additional Terms: Non-exempt, Salary, 10 months (Aug to June) with summer work available.


Charles Wright Academy (CWA) is a co-educational, non-religious, independent school located in University Place, WA. Charles Wright Academy is located on a beautiful, green, and sprawling 107-acre campus that includes athletic fields and more than 60 acres of gorgeous Pacific Northwest forests that also serve as an extension of our proper academic campus. Position Description

The Private Music Lessons Instructor will provide individual music lessons to students at Charles Wright Academy, delivering high-quality, personalized music instruction tailored to each student's needs and goals.


Responsibilities

  1. Provide 25 - 40 minute weekly music lessons to students in grades K through 12 of all varying abilities.

  2. Assess student skill and music knowledge during initial meeting and provide appropriate instrument instruction to progress students toward their musical goals with a focus on developing students' musical skills, including technique, theory, and performance.

  3. Prepares students for student recitals in December and May. Assist with administrative preparations for recitals as requested.

  4. Impart enthusiasm for learning and music to all students

  5. Assist with scheduling lessons and make-up lessons as needed.

  6. Acknowledges and plan for the accommodation of students’ varying levels of diversity in abilities and learning styles

  7. Provides and maintains a stimulating, safe environment.

  8. Conduct ongoing assessments of students’ development and growth and maintain appropriate records.

  9. Maintains regular communication with parents, where applicable, to keep them abreast of students’ performance, preparation thorough practice, and attendance at lessons

  10. Maintain a tidy, positive and professional learning environment.

  11. Utilize school facilities and resources responsibly and in accordance with school policies. Adhere to the school’s policies, procedures, and code of conduct.

  12. Communicates in a professional and timely manner with parents, colleagues, and administration


Qualifications

  • Prior private piano teaching experience of students of a wide range of ages and abilities, including advanced levels; incorporating a broad musical repertoire.

  • A self-starter with a high level of independent time management skill and planning capability.

  • Sense of humor, a passion for working with children and an ability to relate well to a variety of constituencies (faculty, parents and students).


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music or commensurate experience


Physical Requirements

  • Standing/or sitting at least 50% of the time

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally

Salary & Benefits

This position has a salary range between 55,000 - 60,000 per year depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits available are subject to plan and candidate eligibility.

Retirement Plan: CWA offers an employer and employee contributed 403(b) plan, subject to the terms of the applicable benefit plan.

Paid Sick Leave: For roles designated at .5 FTE or higher, employees receive 40 hours of paid sick leave per year. For roles designated at .4 FTE or less, sick leave pay is available to employees in compliance with the applicable state paid sick leave law.
