Job Summary Qualifications: At least one of the following: Human Environmental Science Degree with a concentration in Early Childhood Development or Child Development. Elementary Education degree with a P-3 (formerly N-3) add-on and teacher certification. Elementary Education degree with an A.A.S. in Child Development and teacher certification. Early Childhood Education Degree (B.S., B.A., or MA Ed.) with teacher certification. Special Education degree with a minimum of 18 credit hours in early childhood/child development coursework, and teacher certification. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Reports To: Head Start Director or designee Supervises: Teacher assistant and children Job Goal: To provide care and enrichment for children ages three to five years old. Communicate with parents regarding their child's progress and activities. Supervise an assistant teacher. Performance Responsibilities: Determines individual and class needs through assessment. Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences for classroom and playground activities. Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives. Plan activities with the assistant and provide adequate supervision for the implementation of these plans. Exhibits positive human relations skills and maintains an atmosphere of love and acceptance with consistency and firmness. Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress. Communicates with parents/guardians and volunteers, informing them of program goals. Encourage parent participation. Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication. Maintains and submits records and reports. Maintains confidentiality Adheres to school system/program rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations. Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics. Performs other related duties that are required by the director or his/her designee. Terms of Employment: Nine month year. Salary to be established by the Board based on the availability of funds (OSR grant). Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
