Physical Education Teacher Overview
The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for providing group instruction to all students in a structured gymnasium environment designed to promote physical, emotional and social growth. They will develop Physical Education lessons that are appropriate to the ages and populations served, specifically children and adolescents (ages 5-22 years) with autism, intellectual/developmental disorders and/or acquired brain injury.
Schedule and Salary Information
Monday- Friday 8a-4:30p
Year-round position
Starting Salary: Level 1 PA SPED/PE teacher cert with bachelors degree: $61,360.00 (+) based on years of experience
Requirements
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Physical Education Field
A Pennsylvania teaching certificate in Physical Education or Special Education is required.
A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status.
A minimum of one (1) year experience with specialized populations and experience with special education curriculums.
Strong teaching skills with emphasis on students who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Experience or interest in principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis. Physical Education preferred.
Physical Education Teacher Responsibilities
Responsible for classroom physical education instruction, development of appropriate teaching objectives and documentation systems.
Maintains a classroom schedule for students and assures compliance with schedule.
Creates learning materials that are appropriate to each student served.
Communicates and consults with Interdisciplinary Team to identify programming needs in the area of Physical Education instruction.
Consults with relevant team members to promote continuity in programming between various program areas.
Maintains gym area according to safety standards and informs Education Administrator of any hazards which may exist.
Assists with inventory and maintains materials as needed. Submits requests for replacement or additional materials to Education Administrator.
Assists with classroom teacher coverage as needed.
Assists with student transport daily.
