Michael R. Null Middle SchoolPrimary Purpose:
To develop students' physical competence, health-related fitness, and understanding of movement concepts by providing engaging and standards-aligned physical education instruction. The PE teacher fosters teamwork, discipline, and lifelong healthy habits through a variety of sports, games, and fitness activities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (required)
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Physical Education EC-12 (required)
- CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred or must be obtained upon hire)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of middle school physical education TEKS and fitness principles
- Ability to design and implement engaging and developmentally appropriate PE lessons
- Strong classroom and behavior management skills
- Ability to promote teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility among students
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Instructional Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver daily PE lessons aligned with district curriculum and TEKS
- Teach a variety of sports, fitness routines, and movement activities that promote physical health
- Use strategies to differentiate instruction and meet the diverse needs of students
- Emphasize sportsmanship, cooperation, and respect in all class activities
Assessment and Monitoring:
- Assess student performance and fitness levels using appropriate tools and rubrics
- Maintain accurate records of student participation, grades, and progress
- Provide feedback to students and parents regarding achievement and behavior
Classroom and Facility Management:
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized gymnasium or outdoor play area
- Ensure proper care, use, and storage of PE equipment
- Enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures during physical activities
Campus Collaboration:
- Work with fellow PE teachers and coaches to coordinate activities and support school wellness initiatives
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events
- Support school-wide behavior systems and contribute to a positive campus culture
- Physically active role requiring movement, supervision, and occasional lifting
- Indoor/outdoor instruction in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to physical activity, equipment use, and minor risk of injury typical of PE settings
*Salary is commensurate with experience
*Starting Salary $65,000
*This position cannot be performed remotely
