Performing Arts Teacher

Position Summary:
Helix Community Schools is seeking a passionate and multi-talented Performing Arts Teacher who specializes in Dance, Vocal Music, Theatre , Technical Theatre or a combination of two or more of these disciplines. The ideal candidate will be an energetic educator and artist committed to cultivating student creativity, confidence, and collaboration through engaging, standards-aligned performing arts instruction. This individual will contribute to a dynamic arts department, supporting school-wide performances, productions, and interdisciplinary learning experiences that reflect the diverse cultures and talents of our student body.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum
Design and deliver engaging, differentiated instruction in Dance, Vocal Music, Theatre, or a combination thereof, for students in grades [6-12].
Develop standards-aligned unit and lesson plans that foster performance skills, artistic literacy, and appreciation of diverse genres and cultural traditions.
Teach fundamental to advanced techniques, depending on student level and discipline area(s).
Incorporate cross-disciplinary opportunities and project-based learning aligned with school-wide events and themes
Student Development & Performance
Prepare students for seasonal showcases, concerts, musicals, competitions, and special events.
Direct or co-direct performances, ensembles, or productions throughout the academic year.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where students are encouraged to express themselves and grow artistically and personally.
Collaboration & Leadership
Collaborate with arts and general education faculty to support school culture, interdisciplinary projects, and arts integration.
Participate in department meetings, professional development, curriculum planning, and performance/event planning.
Assist with coordinating auditions, rehearsals, costume and set planning (where applicable).
Administrative & Logistical Support
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessments, and progress.
Communicate regularly with students, families, and administration regarding expectations and performance.
Manage class materials, equipment, and inventory responsibly.
Support fundraising efforts and community outreach related to the arts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts, Dance, Music, Theatre, or related field required.
Master's degree OR specialized training in multiple disciplines is preferred.
Preferred, but not required, Valid teaching certification (or eligibility for certification) in Performing Arts or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years teaching in a K-12 or youth educational setting, preferably with middle or high school students.
Demonstrated experience producing student performances, recitals, or theatrical productions.
Proven ability to teach more than one performing arts discipline is highly desirable.
Skills & Attributes:
Strong classroom management, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
Culturally responsive pedagogy and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts.
Ability to inspire students at all experience levels, from beginner to advanced.
Proficiency with technology for instruction, music editing, choreography, and/or stage design tools is a plus.
Working Conditions & Schedule:
Regular school hours with occasional evenings/weekends for rehearsals and performances.
Physical stamina for movement, dancing, vocal demonstration, or stage setup depending on the discipline(s).
