Start Date: 8/11/25
15-40 hours per week Spring/Fall/Winter, M-F between 8:00am & 5:00pm.
OPTIONAL: 25+ hours per week in Summer.
Examples of Duties
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Nature Preschool Lead Teacher will plan, lead, and assess activities for the Nature Preschool and Summer Camp programs. The Lead Teacher works directly with preschool students and oversees the Assistant Teachers. The Lead Teacher is directly accountable to the Preschool Director and Nature Center Supervisor and adjunctly accountable to the Deputy Director of Special Services and the Director of Special Services. Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE:
Experience in outdoor programming, environmental education, formal teaching, summer camp coordination, childcare or related experience required.
EDUCATION:
A degree in Education and a Teaching Certificate or an adequate number of credits is required. Degree or coursework in environmental education, interpretation, biology, natural history, and/or early childhood preferred.
Supplemental Information
SPECIAL SKILLS & TRAINING:
Excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as good organizational skills required. Ability to successfully plan and lead Environmental Education programs for preschoolers, in addition to a strong knowledge of the natural world. Valid MI driver's license with good driving record and background check is required. CPR/First Aid training preferred. Additional required training provided.
