We bring families together in community and give children a joyfully muddy childhood under the loving guidance of dedicated teachers.  Our programs combine early childhood and environmental education.  Our goals are to promote childrens physical and mental health, encourage environmental stewardship, and to develop habits of mind such as curiosity, initiative, persistence, creativity, problem-solving, and responsibility.BOPN operates toddler and preschool programs in Boston, Milton, Malden, Sudbury, and Sherborn. We are committed to expanding access to nature-based early education through our equity programs, including our public-school partnerships and by opening Bostons first free nature preschool at the Franklin Park Zoo.A Day in the Life as a teacher:As the sun peeks through the trees, the day begins with excited little explorers ready to immerse themselves in the wonders of nature. Children touch the rough bark of trees, play in the soft moss, and discover the thrill of creating mud pies and nature art. Laughter fills the air as the children, led by their teacher, embark on journeys that foster connectionboth with the natural world and each other. At BOPN, we believe these moments of joy and discovery are not just learning opportunities but memories that will last a lifetime.Position Overview:We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Support Teacher.The ideal candidate will be someone who is passionate about early childhood development, responsive to children's emerging needs, and experienced in supporting social-emotional growth. This teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teams to provide flexible, responsive care and guidance to children who may benefit from additional support throughout the school year. This role is grounded in nature-based learning and emphasizes relationship-building, observation, and inclusion.This role was created to ensure that children who may require additional social-emotional or developmental support can be met with care, consistency, and presence.Support Teaching Responsibilities:Provide in-the-moment, flexible support to children who may need additional guidance with transitions, emotional regulation, peer relationships, or other developmental needs.Collaborate with Lead and Assistant Teachers to identify when and where support is most needed across the school week.Build trusting, respectful relationships with children and offer consistent emotional support rooted in compassion, empathy, and curiosity.Participate in outdoor explorations and play, engaging children in a way that fosters inclusion, resilience, and a sense of belonging in the natural world.Model and support positive behavior guidance strategies, including conflict resolution and co-regulation techniques.Support children in daily routines such as mealtimes, transitions, diapering/toileting, and gear changes during wet, cold, or hot weather.Observe children and share informal reflections or notes with teaching teams to help guide classroom support plans.Serve as an additional adult presence during class activities, hikes, or projects when targeted support is helpful for an individual or small group.Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers, site directors, and program staff in a professional and respectful manner.Support a positive relationship with families by upholding confidentiality, professionalism, and inclusivity.Participate in staff meetings and professional development related to inclusion, social-emotional learning, and responsive teaching.Interact respectfully with site partners and the public, supporting our organization's presence and reputation during program hours.Position Requirements:Position Requirements:At least 2 years of experience working with young children in early childhood, special education, Montessori, Reggio Emilia, nature-based, or play-based settings.Strong understanding of child development and responsive, strengths-based approaches to behavior guidance and emotional support.Demonstrated ability to build relationships with young children through empathy, presence, and patience.Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions (including rain, snow, and heat) and supporting children in navigating those conditions.Ability to observe, adapt, and respond to the changing needs of a dynamic early childhood environment.Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.Commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging for all children and families.High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field strongly preferred.Background check and fingerprinting required upon hire.Pediatric First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).How to Apply:If you're excited to join a dynamic team of educators passionate about nature-based learning, wed love to hear from you!
