Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Music Teacher to bring our music curriculum to life for grades K-6. This educator will inspire joy and reverence for music through singing, movement, and instrumental instruction, while integrating the arts into our broader curriculum and school culture. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, collaborative, and aligned with Waldorf principles and whole-child education. This is a full-time position, though we are open to a job-share model for the right candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum & Instruction Deliver developmentally aligned music instruction that supports the Waldorf pedagogical approach. Teach vocal music across grades K-6, introducing pentatonic flute (grades 1-2), recorder (from grade 3), ukulele (grade 4), and string instruments (grades 5-6). Introduce students to diverse musical traditions, genres, and cultural contexts. Integrate music with classroom themes and seasonal rhythms, creating cross-curricular connections. Utilize storytelling, movement, and rhythm to enliven lessons and meet the needs of varied learners. Classroom Culture & Student Engagement Foster a warm, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment where creativity and expression thrive. Encourage student participation, self-expression, and collaboration through music. Differentiate instruction to meet the developmental and learning needs of all students. Performances & Community Engagement Lead and coordinate student performances, including seasonal festivals, assemblies, concerts, and class plays. Collaborate with class teachers and specialty subject faculty to support interdisciplinary performances and school-wide events. Contribute to the cultural life of the school through meaningful musical experiences that celebrate community. Assessment & Communication Observe, document, and assess student growth through a holistic lens. Provide narrative evaluations and contribute to student progress reports. Participate in parent-teacher conferences and offer thoughtful feedback on student development. Collaboration & Professional Culture Participate fully in faculty meetings, school festivals, and professional development. Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, and a team-oriented mindset. Model the school's values of respect, imagination, and excellence through your teaching and interactions. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field required; teaching credential preferred. Familiarity with or strong interest in Waldorf education and anthroposophy. Proficiency in classroom instruments (flute, recorder, ukulele, strings, and voice). Ability to read music and adapt arrangements for student ensembles. Prior classroom teaching experience, especially in grades K-6, strongly preferred. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
