Job Summary:
The Mild Intervention Teacher will provide specialized instruction and support to students with behavioral disabilities in a structured, supportive educational setting. This role focuses on creating and maintaining a positive learning environment that fosters emotional regulation, social skill development, and academic success. The teacher will collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and promote student growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Creates positive and respectful relationships with students, staff, parents, administrators and professional agencies who work on behalf of the student.
Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs for students with mild to moderate behavioral and emotional disabilities.
Provide individualized and small-group instruction aligned with students' academic and behavioral goals.
Implement evidence-based behavioral strategies and interventions (e.g., PBIS, restorative practices, functional behavior assessments).
Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
Provides lesson plans for paraprofessionals and provides ongoing supervision and mentoring to ensure the IEP is being appropriately implemented.
Foster a structured and supportive classroom environment with consistent routines and clear expectations.
Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, behavior plans, and support strategies.
Participate in IEP meetings, team planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
Maintain accurate and timely records, including progress monitoring data, behavioral logs, and communication notes.
Follows guidelines and procedures set forth in the school handbook.
Complies with all corporation and state/federal reporting requirements within mandated timelines.
Other duties as assigned by the district, building or special education administration.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or a related field.
Valid Indiana teaching license with a Special Education Mild Intervention endorsement.
Strong understanding of behavioral interventions, trauma-informed practices, and de-escalation techniques.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
