Summary
The MS/HS Art teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes various art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media, and overall student well-being. This includes creating a positive, inclusive classroom environment, assessing student progress, and collaborating with staff and families to support student success. The teacher must demonstrate strong classroom management, a commitment to professional growth, and the ability to adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
Valid and current teaching certificate for the State of Michigan.
State teaching certification with an LQ, LX or LZ endorsement.
Strong knowledge of subject concepts and ability to teach them effectively
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment Preferred Skills: Skilled at designing learning environments that promote a student’s ability to achieve at their highest potential.
Experience using data to develop lesson plans and instructional groups
Effective communication with students, staff, parents, and the community.
Outstanding computer skills, professional appearance, and attendance at school-sponsored events and activities.
Keen awareness of responsibilities for confidentiality and professionalism.
Familiarity with PBIS. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Must have regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
Manage student behavior and classroom climate to support students’ focus on learning
Provide developmentally appropriate individualized, small group and whole class instruction to meet the learning needs of all students.
Teach District approved curriculum through both direct instruction and inquiry-based instruction.
Provide engaging and dynamic instruction in various art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media.
Develop and implement lesson plans that integrate art history, theory, and practical techniques.
Assess student learning through a variety of evaluation methods such as discussion, projects, performance assessments, tests, and demonstrations.
Communicate frequently with parents and guardians.
Participate collaboratively with peers and administrators in planning and evaluating the instructional program.
Represent Morenci Area Schools in a positive manner in the community
Participate in continual professional growth opportunities that are aligned with district priorities
Demonstrate understanding of the substance of their subjects, including both facts and organizing ideas, and instruction
Performing all other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
Articulate student learning objectives and reasons for importance, provide timely, accurate feedback to students, and engage students in self-assessment.
Demonstrate understanding of diverse family and cultural backgrounds and interest in students.

Physical Demands
Frequently required to stand and talk or hear while sometimes walking and sitting. The employee may occasionally push or lift up to 40 pounds. Frequent bending, stooping, or getting up and down from the floor are also required.
