TITLE: Middle School ELA Teacher (7th Grade)
25-26 SY ONLY
QUALIFICATIONS: Washington state teaching certification; course work and/or experience appropriate to assignment, vocational certification when appropriate; judgment and discretion befitting an educator. Successfully pass background check, including criminal history.
REPORTS TO: Building principal and district superintendent.
JOB GOAL: To provide for and carry out an instructional program as defined by the school district and the state.
SUPERVISES: Students and para educators as assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches to the state curriculum as set forth by the Washington State Learning Standards. Relates curriculum, instruction and assessment to the Washington State Learning Standards. Participates in ongoing professional development to enhance understanding and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Implements the district-adopted curriculum and supplements it with additional resources and targeted interventions to support diverse learning needs. Maintains active involvement and participation in professional learning communities. And participates in in-service and staff meetings as required. Supports and engages in district-wide improvement efforts and initiatives. Engage in professional learning and implement strategies to support the learning needs of multilingual learners. Maintains current and comprehensive classroom lesson plans. Assesses student learning and uses both formative and required assessments to guide instruction. Manages class routines efficiently and uses textbooks and related instructional materials effectively. Differentiates instruction to meet varied student learning levels, promoting both academic and social growth for all students Develop and maintain a positive classroom environment. Establish and maintain collaborative professional relationships with others. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and colleagues concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of students. Teach students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior by developing a written classroom plan that is connected to the school wide behavior expectations (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). Supports Associated Student Body (ASB), extracurricular programs, and school-related activities. Maintains order and discipline using effective classroom management strategies and adheres to district and school policies. Communicates effectively with parents and maintains a positive image in the community. Respects and listens to the opinions and suggestions of students. Dresses and acts in a professional manner. Maintains punctuality and reliability in all professional responsibilities. Actively participates in vertical and horizontal collaboration teams. (school committees, grade level teams, etc.) Communicates and cooperates with professional peers and administration. Maintains confidentiality regarding student, family, and staff matters. Is responsible for maintaining assigned area, materials, equipment, and inventories. Reports defective equipment and repairs as needed to principal. Is responsible for updating inventories and turning them in to the office at the end of the year. Maintains accurate academic/behavior records and keeps student cumulative records updated. Actively participates in all district assessments appropriate to grade level or as directed by the building administrators. Is aware of existing social, political, and economic conditions within the school district. Respects the various cultures of our students and community. Assists the students in developing pride in one's self and his/her heritage. Complies with all rules and regulations of federal and state grants as pertain to the school and each teacher's individual position. Performs such other duties as may be required of the position or assigned by the administration to fulfill the mission and role of the school in the community.
LIMITS OF AUTHORITY: Has authority over students and para educators as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Contractual agreement in accordance with WAC parameters of state laws and the negotiated agreement, the individual contract, district rules and regulations, and administrative directives.
LENGTH: 180 Day Contract- 25-26 School Year Only
SCHEDULE: 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: As determined by the Board of Directors, state law, local board policy and GEA bargaining agreement.
EVALUATION: At least annually on or before May 1st by the building principal or designee. New or probationary employees are evaluated more often as per state law, WAC's, GEA contract and district policy.
