*Salary:* Salary is determined in accordance with our collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the UFT and is based on years of prior teaching experience and corresponding placement on the step scale.

*QUALIFICATIONS*
* Bachelor's degree required * Master's degree preferred * New York State Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12) required * Minimum of 3 years teaching experience preferred * Strong collaboration skills and interest in interdisciplinary teaching * Knowledge of special education laws and compliance (e.g., IDEA, IEP implementation, SESIS)
*FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
The Special Education Teacher will work both in inclusive (ICT) and pull-out (SETSS/resource room) settings to support middle school students (6-8th grades) with IEPs. They will collaborate closely with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure all students receive the services and accommodations they need to thrive.
*Instructional Responsibilities:*
* Provide small-group instruction to students as indicated by their IEPs, in a SETSS/resource room setting * Support inclusion by co-teaching or consulting in general education classes (ICT model) * Modify and adapt curriculum and instructional materials based on student needs * Track daily attendance for SETSS groups in SESIS
*Collaborative Support:*
* Assist classroom teachers with implementing accommodations, modifications, and behavior plans * Provide coaching and modeling of strategies for supporting students with IEPs * Develop materials, visuals, and routines that support students' academic and social-emotional needs * Serve as a liaison to families, offering guidance and communication related to student supports and services * Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and parent-teacher conferences as needed * Collaborate with special education representatives from students' district of residence

* Demonstrate a deep understanding of inclusive education practices and a commitment to AoC's mission and educational philosophy * Maintain current knowledge of special education laws, instructional strategies, and compliance protocols * Exhibit strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills * Take initiative in ongoing professional development related to special education, inclusive practices, and collaboration
