Job Description

Job Description

Primary Position Objectives

The UWC-USA program - a two-year experience that integrates our academic, co-curricular, and residential curricula - prepares students to serve as catalysts for greater unity, peace and sustainability in the world. We support students in the practice of our mission during their two years on campus and challenge them to live our mission for a lifetime.

In the 2025-2026 school year, UWC-USA will pilot a "microschool" for the children of employees. The microschool will be a homeschool "pod" of 5th, 6th, and 7th graders learning together. A teaching fellow will teach the small number of different-grade-level students, be responsible for developing lesson plans and working with faculty-parents to shape a new program. The first year will be an adaptive, creative environment, and work to establish a foundation for a program that may continue to grow. As a result, UWC-USA will hire an experienced educator as a Lead Teacher to support the Teaching Fellow on a part-time (15 hours/week) basis.

As with all teachers at UWC-USA, the Lead Teacher will be employed on a 10-month agreement that runs from 1 August to 31 May and paid over the course of 12 months. Their summer and winter holiday travel plans should not interfere with their professional obligations at the beginning of August, mid-December, early January, and late May.

Position Responsibilities

Academic Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Support the Teaching Fellow as they teach a differentiated classroom of 5th, 6th, and 7th grade curricula, running from 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Course Content and Assessment: Support the Teaching Fellow as they develop lesson plans to follow UWCSEA's bespoke curriculum for the relevant grade years. The teaching fellow will be responsible for developing lesson plans and assessments relevant to the way that the curriculum is grounded for our students. Teachers should incorporate cross-curricular connections and scaffold learning to enhance accessibility for all types of learners and support holistic learning approaches.
  • The teaching fellow will need to cover the full range of curricular content, from language arts to mathematics.
  • Grades and Reports: Support the teaching fellow as they compile assessments and write a narrative report for each student at designated times of the year.

Other Program Responsibilities:

  • Connection with UWC-USA: As an employee of UWC-USA, the Lead Teacher will have all the benefits and hold all the responsibilities of hourly/part-time employees.
