A. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To help provide a guided, personalized transition from pre-service education through the initial year of employment in Lincoln County to the professional teaching level. 2. To advise and assist a beginning teacher or beginning administrator on an individual basis. 3. To serve as a member of the professional support team for the intern. 4. To hold or attend the necessary meetings required for mentors and beginning teachers/administrators.
B. RELATIONSHIP TO OTHERS 1. Works under the direct supervision of the school principal or the immediate supervisor. 2. Serve as a mentor for a new teacher or new administrator in a new assignment as per established guidelines. 3. Work with other members of the mentor support team in an effort to provide the best possible delivery of services for the beginning teacher/administrator.

D. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION 1. Valid WV Teaching Certificate 2. Training as a mentor teacher 3. Experience and degree in the same teaching field is preferred. 4. Located in the same school (preferred) 5. Successful evaluations over the last two years.
E. FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES 1. To have a joint planning time when possible. 2. To conduct observations of the beginning teacher/administrator on a weekly basis the first half of the year. These may be reduced the second half of the year. 3. To hold weekly meetings with the intern to discuss performance issues and improvement areas if needed. These meetings may be reduced during the second half of the year. 4. To attend monthly meetings of the mentor support team. 5. To help determine the need and delivery of individual staff development for beginning teacher/administrator. 6. Have the ability to model a variety of educational strategies. 7. Must demonstrate effective professional behaviors. 8. Must be a skilled communicator. 9. Should emphasize job-related activities and performance. 10. Should be able to identify a wide array of human, material and fiscal resources. 11. Be able to assist with identifying and planning long-term goals and objectives. 12. Assist the beginning teacher/administrator with self-evaluation of daily activities to achieve the desired objectives. 13. Must be able to conference and consult in an effective manner.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 200 days, extra-curricular position and contract - $600 per year/$300 per ½ year
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Supervisory Personnel.
