Job Description:
The Health Occupations teacher will provide instruction in the Health Science Education career cluster, specifically teaching Health Science II and PLTW Human Body Systems (Honors). This educator will prepare students for post-secondary education and careers in healthcare, exposing them to real-world healthcare scenarios, patient care concepts, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and health career pathways.
The teacher will also be responsible for delivering engaging, hands-on instruction aligned with NC CTE standards and PLTW curriculum , while integrating career readiness, critical thinking, and 21st-century skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Duties:
Deliver Health Science II curriculum aligned with NC DPI and CTE standards, including advanced healthcare skills, medical terminology, ethics, healthcare systems, and career exploration.
Facilitate PLTW Human Body Systems (HBS) Honors course using the nationally recognized PLTW curriculum, integrating biomedical science and project-based learning.
Use appropriate instructional strategies and resources to meet diverse student needs, including hands-on labs, simulations, and industry-aligned technology.
Integrate employability skills, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making throughout instruction.
Supervise and guide students during lab and clinical simulations following all applicable safety and ethical standards.
Develop lesson plans that incorporate best practices in instruction, assessment, and technology integration.
Prepare students for potential industry-recognized credentials such as CPR and First Aid
Classroom and Program Management:
Maintain an orderly, inclusive, and safe classroom environment conducive to learning.
Manage inventory and maintenance of lab supplies, models, and medical equipment used in instruction.
Collaborate with administration and district CTE personnel to ensure alignment with curriculum and program goals.
Implement classroom management strategies that reflect respect and support for all students.
Professional Responsibilities:
Attend and participate in departmental, school, and district CTE meetings and professional development activities.
Establish and maintain relationships with healthcare professionals and community partners to enhance the learning experience and career exposure for students.
Support students in work-based learning opportunities, such as job shadowing or internships, in collaboration with the school’s career development coordinator (CDC).
Maintain student records, grades, and assessment data per school and state policies.
