Job Description The role of a Middle School Math teacher at Uncommon Schools involves collaboration within grade-level teams to nurture students into self-guided learners. A passion for mathematics is essential as our teachers refine their subject mastery. We employ a range of instructional strategies to cultivate problem-solving skills and perseverance in our students. By the end of eighth grade, students will be well-prepared for the academic demands of high school, focusing on college readiness. Responsibilities Instruction Teach essential middle school math concepts such as ratios, proportions, expressions, and equations. Utilize our in-house CCSS-aligned Math curriculum combined with culturally responsive problem-solving methods. Inspire students to engage deeply with mathematical challenges and explore various problem-solving approaches. Use your enthusiasm for mathematics to instill confidence and foster engagement among students.
Data Analysis Conduct weekly meetings with your principal or instructional coach to analyze student work and assessment trends. Develop and implement differentiated instruction strategies to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
School Culture Build strong, positive relationships with students to ensure they feel valued and understood. Collaborate with students' families to provide necessary resources for supporting each child's learning. Participate in professional development and coaching sessions geared toward teaching excellence. Engage in weekly school-wide meetings to foster community, promote our core values, and encourage student achievement. Work with your grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional techniques.
Qualifications Demonstrated commitment to advancing students’ social, emotional, and academic growth. Enthusiasm for collaboration with internal and external partners in support of student success. Self-motivated learner, open to feedback and dedicated to continuous improvement. Required Experience: Interest and dedication to impacting K-12 students, particularly in urban educational settings (1-2 years of experience preferred). Strong academic background in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or related disciplines. Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution prior to employment commencement. While teacher certification is not required for application in NJ, candidates must meet state certification eligibility (minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduates after 9/1/16 or 2.75 for those prior). All instructional staff are expected to become certified in New Jersey within a reasonable timeframe after beginning employment.

Starting salaries are influenced by various factors, including full-time teaching experience, educational certifications, and tenure at Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time teaching experience should expect a starting salary of $56,000.
