Job Description As a Math Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will collaborate with grade and content teams to empower students to become self-guided learners. You will specialize in your subject area and utilize strategies to inspire and motivate high school students. Your passion for mathematics will be evident in your teaching, and at the conclusion of high school, students will be well-prepared for college and advanced academic work. Responsibilities 1. Instruction Teach math curricula that includes Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus, preparing students for AP and collegiate coursework. Support students in problem-solving and critical thinking. Engage students with your enthusiasm for mathematics to foster confidence and interest. Develop students' abilities to construct and justify viable mathematical arguments. Create a safe and supportive classroom environment where every student feels confident and engaged. Collaborate with the Math department to establish academic and engagement goals. 2. Data Analysis Participate in weekly meetings with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student performance trends. Implement differentiated instructional strategies to meet all learners' needs. 3. School Culture Build meaningful relationships with students to help them feel recognized and valued. Collaborate with families to ensure that resources are available to support students' learning. Engage in professional development, mentoring, and coaching sessions. Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to promote community, model core values, and encourage student achievement. Work with your grade level team to set academic goals and instructional strategies. Qualifications Strong commitment to supporting students’ social and academic development. Desire to collaborate with colleagues and external partners for the benefit of students. Motivated self-learner who seeks and applies feedback to enhance success. Required Experience: Expertise in Mathematics or related fields. Interest in making a positive impact on K-12 students in urban communities (1-2 years of experience preferred). A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required prior to employment. Teacher certification is not mandatory for consideration, but candidates must meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements. Our compensation philosophy values equity and fairness while striving to attract and retain top talent. Compensation The salary range for this role is between $56,000 and $80,000. Starting salary will be determined based on relevant experience, educational certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $56,000.
