Summary
POSITION SUMMARY: To provide a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for children to learn, grow and develop with hands-on opportunities that are age appropriate. To foster development of children in the content areas; social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive and math. This position will be responsive for a class with 8-10 children between the ages of 18 months - 2.5 years old. **Serious inquiries only and you will be notified by email for an in-person interview!**
WORKING CONDITIONS: Conditions may include working indoors, equipped with air conditioning and outdoors. WORK HOURS: Monday – Friday (8:00am-4:30pm) Duties may require occasional overtime. Weekends or additional hours as necessary to meet business needs. EQUIPMENT USE: Must be able to use a computer, copier, facsimile machine, and telephone/voice mail system, or willing to learn on the job.
Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Creates and ensures that the learning environment is safe and nurturing through intentional teaching and active supervision. Ensures the children are always supervised within sight and/or sound. Creates and implements curriculum using the “Creative Curriculum” as a framework. Submits monthly lesson plans and posts them in the classroom. Plans and implements daily activities. Assess children’s progress and development by using resource tools to document observations, checklists, sample work, pictures, etc. Communicates with parents written and/or verbally regarding their child’s learning and development. Actively engages, interacts and participates in children’s learning. Uses positive guidance techniques to discipline children. Reports any facility issues and removes items that are hazardous to children immediately. Ensures that all chemicals and hazardous items are locked or properly stored. Knowledgeable of children’s allergies, medications, medical history, etc. and communicates with their classroom aide. Restock supplies and report any purchases needed to the director. Knowledgeable and compliant with child-staff ratios at all times. Always knows the daily head count of the class. Supervises the classroom assistant teachers and/or aides. Provides support, coaching and mentoring to their classroom assistant and/or aide. Attends and participates in staff meetings Searches and attends professional development classes, workshops, etc.(Minimum 16 hours per anniversary year). Updates annual background checks with Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing Division. Respects the confidentiality of student records, observations when communicating with parents and co-workers. Arrives to work according to their scheduled shifts on time and adheres to the “call out” policy when reporting an absence. Follows all policies and procedures of the Wesley Children’s Program. Dresses appropriately, comfortably, and professionally. Communicates positively to children, parents, and co-workers.
MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS: Must be able to work under minimal supervision. Requires sitting for prolonged periods during meetings and at other times. Requires frequent walking, bending and kneeling Requires working to established procedures, maintaining reliable work attendance. Requires verbal communication skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions. Detail oriented and well organized. Update annual background checks with Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing Division Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and be able to physically move around with children ages six months to five years old.
Requirements
MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess an associate degree or higher in the Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited college or university. Must have 30 hours of course work in infant/toddler Must have at least 12-24 months of experience working in an infant/toddler educational setting. Must successfully pass all background checks and health clearances (Physical and TB Tests results are required). Preferred COVID vaccinated Must complete a registry with CANOES found on the patchhawaii.org website.

About Us
The Wesley Children’s Program was built around 1968 in the Kahala areaby the Wesley United Methodist Church as an outreach to the community offering early childhood education programs in a nurturing and supportive atmosphere.We are licensed by the State of Hawaii under the Department of Human Services to serve 21 children in our Infant/Toddler (I/T) program ages 6 months old to under 3 years old and 34 children in the Group Child Care (GCC) program ages 2 years old to under 6 years old.Our mission is to provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment that will stimulate learning in every child’s developmental areas.We strive to provide hands-on age appropriate opportunities using the Creative Curriculum framework.
