DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist the classroom teacher with the daily operation, development, and implementation of the Meskwaki Language/Culture in the classroom, including preparing for class activities, copying and duplicating materials as needed, and related tasks upon request.
· Assist with learning activities of the class with due regard to the individual differences and needs of the students.
· Assist with all aspects of maintaining order in the classroom and school premises, consistent with MSS PBIS guidelines.
· Assist with teaching Meskwaki Language and traditional Meskwaki values, customs and beliefs as requested.
· Maintain records for individual students, as requested by teacher.
· Will refer all inquiries and concerns about students to the classroom teacher and/or the Language Coordinator, as directed.
· Assist in maintaining a positive learning environment for the utmost learning of each child and demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm when working with students.
· Assist with Language/Cultural activities throughout the school year.
· Attend all required staff meetings and professional development, as directed by the Administration.
· Perform recess and lunchroom duties as scheduled.
· Sign up for and carry out duties for extracurricular activities.
· Comply with all employment-related policies, including but not limited to, the Staff Handbook.
· Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Minimum of a high school diploma or GED and one year of work experience, preferably with children, in a school setting or with the Tribe.
· Prefer ability to understand and speak Meskwaki.
· Possess knowledge of the Meskwaki culture.
· Additional training and coursework as may be requested by the supervisor.
· Must be able to pass background investigation as required by P.L. 101-630, P.L. 101-647 and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
· Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
· Starting at $11.74 per hour. Can be negotiable, based on qualifications.
· This a 200-day contract position. (Contract will be pro-rated from the start date to the last day of work for teaching staff.)
· Eligible for benefits after 90 days of employment.
SUPERVISION
· Will be under the direct supervision of the Language Coordinator.
