Cathedral is currently seeking a Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Science Teacher.
The K -2 Science Teacher reports directly to the Head of Lower School and is an integral member of the Lower School at The Cathedral School of St. John the Divine. Candidates must have at least 3 years of elementary classroom teaching experience. The ideal candidate will have experience or education in the sciences. A bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree or advanced certification in the sciences is preferred. Experience with and understanding of STEAM and STEAM-related projects is desired.
In support of The Cathedral School's mission, the Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Science Teacher must be prepared to view curriculum, classroom, and school culture through a lens focused on equity and justice. A nurturing and caring personality is essential.
The K-2 Science Teacher is responsible for all classroom duties, both academic and organizational. These responsibilities include: planning and teaching curriculum, facilitating classroom management procedures, observing and assessing students' progress, and communicating with parents, faculty, and administration.
The K-2 Science Teacher prepares written comments for families twice a year. They attend faculty meetings and grade level meetings for specialists, and confer with colleagues regarding teaching and strategies. The K-2 Science Teacher has lunch and bus duty responsibilities.
The K-2 Science Teacher is responsible for completing a Meaningful Faculty Evaluation plan and working on these goals with the Division Head. They are responsible for informing the Senior Divisional Coordinator of supplies that need to be ordered for the classroom and maintaining a budget. In the event of a known absence, the teacher needs to leave appropriate lesson plans for the substitute teacher.
The K-2 Science Teacher is a full-time, 10-month in-person role. The hiring range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000.
